PFAUENINSEL...near Berlin

Since I grew up in Athens, I wouldn't say that I am familiar with lakes. That's why when I visited this place, I didn't think until then that I would come across a small island in the lake. So in Lake Wansee, there is a small island, about which I will tell you right away.

I am in Berlin and I take the train from the center. Within about 30 minutes I am in this beautiful place on Lake Wansee. There a boat is waiting for us on the shore and takes us in 2 minutes across to Pfaueninzel (peacock island). Everything is very quiet here and of course, the place is full of peacocks. Arriving at the island I stand in a tiny palace called the tea palace. It is a place where blue-blooded ladies used to spend their tea time afternoons enjoying the tea, the cakes, and this fantastic view of the lake.

I keep walking in a deep but kind forest. Fortunately, there are many benches so I get some rest. The smell of the trees and of the flowers is amazing. I see squirrels running around, and some birds singing, and I feel relaxed and blessed. I wish I had a house here!
