PFAUENINSEL...near Berlin Since I grew up in Athens, I wouldn't say that I am familiar with lakes. That's why when I visited this place, I didn't think until then that I would come across a small island in the lake. So in Lake Wansee, there is a small island, about which I will tell you right away. I am in Berlin and I take the train from the center. Within about 30 minutes I am in this beautiful place on Lake Wansee. There a boat is waiting for us on the shore and takes us in 2 minutes across to Pfaueninzel (peacock island). Everything is very quiet here and of course, the place is full of peacocks. Arriving at the island I stand in a tiny palace called the tea palace. It is a place where blue-blooded ladies used to spend their tea time afternoons enjoying the tea, the cakes, and this fantastic view of the lake. I keep walking in a deep but kind forest.  SALZBURG...the cozy city While spending my holidays in Munich, Germany, I thought of visiting an Austrian city that is quite close. The city, whose name means "the castle of Salt", is no other than Salzburg. So I take the train and travel from Munich to Salzburg in about 2 hours. The journey is pleasant and the train is comfortable and clean. Even though I cross the German-Austrian border I don't feel like I'm in a completely different country, since these two countries are quite similar. Arriving at the Salzburg train station I'm a bit disappointed because the view is nothing special, compared to other train stations I've been to before. I leave the station behind and stand in the middle of a very large square.  I get on the bus and head to the old town. The Salzach River divides the town into two, the old and the new.
